Superior Taste Award 2020 for NIREUS’ Meagre & Amberjack

Superior Taste Award 2020 for NIREUS’ Meagre & Amberjack

Nireus’ Μeagre and Amberjack were this year granted the Superior Taste Award 2020 in the taste event organized by the internationally recognized International Taste Institute.

This is a very important distinction, as Meagre is awarded for the second time, while Amberjack is the first time it participates in a competition and the first time it is awarded.

Amberjack is a muscular fish, very strong and very fast swimmer. Its availability from aquaculture comes to cover the seasonality of wild catch, making it available all year round. Research on species development is carried out in cooperation with groups of producers and research institutes, financed by European funds. Production takes place in Greece aiming to support the country's business model to offer a variety of farmed species to clients.

International Taste Institute (former iTQi), founded in 2005 and based in Brussels, Belgium is the world leader in the evaluation and certification of TASTE and the “Superior Taste Award" is the top seal of taste quality.

The panel's judges are composed of over 200 renowned Michelin-starred Chefs and award-winning Sommeliers from 15 European culinary or sommeliers associations.

The Taste Institute performs objective sensory evaluation: its jury follows a rigorous blind tasting methodology in which product samples are anonymized to avoid any bias in the scoring. In addition to the scoring of the various sensory analysis criteria, the jury provides comments and eventually suggestions for further product improvement, or food pairing suggestions.
